Work Permit
Every year, millions of foreign workers visit Canada in order to satisfy the needs of Canadian companies. Temporary occupations usually need work authorization. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) established a scheme that permits foreign employees to work in Canada for a set amount of time.
A work permit is not an immigration document and does not allow foreigners to remain permanently in Canada. Foreigners must qualify for immigration categories such as skilled worker programmes in order to reside in Canada permanently. Your spouse or common-law partner, as well as any dependent children, can apply for a work permit to come to Canada to study or work. The duration of a work permit is determined by the needs of the employment. Applicants must apply for a renewal of their work permit at least 30 days before their existing permit expires.

Foreign employees with an open work permit can work for any employer in Canada, with the exception of employers who are ineligible as defined by the Canadian government and employers whose job description includes sexual or related labour.
